Have No Fear

Our Adult Bible Fellowship class recently discussed what it is like when God calls you to do something extraordinary, and how easy it is to fear that calling because you can’t imagine that you’ll have what it takes to make it through. We were discussing how Noah must have felt when the Lord called him to build the ark. We talked about the faith and obedience Noah must have had to trust and follow the Lord, though the Lord’s instruction or “plan” probably made very little sense to Noah at the time.

We discussed the amount of physical effort, skill, and time it must have taken to build a 450ft long, 75ft wide, 45ft tall ark, and the dedication Noah required to gather all the animals and enough food for the animals. We talked about how grueling it must have been for Noah to do all of this single-handedly. We agreed that we should all be willing to answer God’s call because we know he will use us for his glory, but we questioned whether we would be strong enough physically or spiritually.

And then a friend said “I’d rather build the ark than have to go through what Jenny did,” referring to the death of my daughter. She discussed the fear she had of having to face the loss of a child, even if she knew that event would serve in furthering God’s purpose. It was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me regarding the loss of my child.

But I tell you—have no fear. Do not be afraid of what God may ask you to do. Do not avoid seeking a close relationship with God for fear that He will call you to do something great. The Bible says “God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13 TEV).

God absolutely used the experience with my twin daughters to mold me and make me into the person he wanted me to be. Though not a day goes by that I don’t wish my daughter were here with me, I am so very grateful for the place I am at in my life and I would not be in this place without my experience. God put me to the ultimate test; but he has carried me through and is being glorified by the message of peace and comfort I now share where ever I go.

Do not fear a higher calling. 1 John 4:18 says "There is no fear in love." Love the Lord with all your heart. Trust in the Lord in all situations and do not be afraid to answer when called. On this Christmas day, let us all be thankful for the One who allows us a relationship with God the Father: our sweet Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

By His Amazing Grace,
Jenny
